The City of Bath Male Choir

PRESS RELEASE

27th February 2006

BATH’S new male voice choir gets down to what its conductor calls ‘serious rehearsals’ from next Tuesday March 7th.

It’s only a couple of months since Grenville Jones announced The City of Bath Male Choir. There have been two meetings and a regular rehearsal venue has now been set – it is at Beechen Cliff Methodist Church in Shakespeare Avenue from 8.00pm-9.30pm.

The choir which already has over 40 men in it will rehearse alternate Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the dates will be on the choir website www.bathmalechoir.org or call Grenville on 01761 479352.

“We have had a terrific response and to give everyone a chance to attend I have gone for different days on alternate weeks. Perhaps that’s not what other choirs do, but were not going to be like anyone else!” says Grenville.

The inaugural concert will be in Bath’s Guildhall on Saturday November 4th and Grenville’s sights are set on a choir of 70 plus men that night. Guest soloist will be mezzo soprano Jeanette Ager.

“The enthusiasm from the boys has been really encouraging. Of the people who have joined so far about half have never sung before in a choir, there are some very good voices. The ability to sight read is not important, just a love of singing,” adds Grenville.

Grenville’s reputation as a choir leader is best illustrated by his leadership of Bath’s Silver Ring Choir who have grown to a mixed-voice group of 85 since he took over as conductor eight years ago.

The Silver Ring’s tours and concerts with big name stars such as Jamie Cullum, Clare Teal and Katherine Jenkins have earned them extensive media coverage and sell-out concerts.
