The City of Bath Male Choir

PRESS RELEASE

Wednesday, January 25, 2006

A UNIQUE meeting will take place next Tuesday January 31st in Bath. It will be the first rehearsal of The City of Bath Male Choir, a new choir which has been formed by Grenville Jones, leader of the famous The Silver Ring Choir of Bath.

Grenville announced his intention to start a new male choir in Bath early in January and has had an excellent response from singers.

He said:

“My phone has been red-hot ever since. People told me that there would not be sufficient interest in and around Bath for a male voice choir, they were wrong!

“I am expecting around 30 men next Tuesday and anyone who is interested is more than welcome to come along and join us.

“This is our very first meeting of the choir and so will be quite a special occasion for everyone. We have not yet established the day of the week when the choir will meet or the venue, that’s something we will discuss next week, but for the first meeting we will be in the William Jay Room at Bath’s United Reform Church on Pulteney Street starting at 8.00pm and finishing at around 9.30pm. Entrance is from Grove Street and the room is downstairs.

“I am convinced that I will have a choir of around 70 to 90 voices by the end of this year and I am setting my sights on the first concert of The City of Bath Male Choir in Bath sometime in September, hopefully in the Guildhall.”

Grenville is a man with a reputation for getting things done on the musical front. He took over as Silver Ring Choir conductor eight years ago when numbers were around the 40 mark. In the past eight years he has taken the choir on trips abroad to Canada, America, New Zealand and Singapore, made three CDs and has produced concerts in the Bath Forum with jazz superstars Jamie Cullum and Claire Teal and last December with Welsh Mezzo-Soprano Katherine Jenkins. The Silver Ring Choir now has 85 voices and continues to grow.

Anyone who cannot make the rehearsal next Tuesday and would like further information can contact Grenville on 01761 479352 or visit the website www.bathmalechoir.org
