The
City of Bath Male Choir
PRESS
RELEASE
14th
March 2006
TWO
musicians who live in the Timsbury area are the driving forces behind
a new male voice choir that already has 50 singers signed up.
Grenville
Jones who lives at Meadgate, Camerton, is well-known as the conductor
of Bath’s famous Silver Ring Choir. He took over the choir eight
years ago and since that time has doubled the size, made three CDs and
staged concerts with such famous names as Grimethorpe Band, Treorchy
and London Welsh Male Choir and jazz starts Jamie Cullum and Clare Teal.
Add
to this tours of Canada, Europe and last November a three week visit
to Singapore and New Zealand and then on returning to Bath a sell-out
concert with mezzo soprano Katherine Jenkins. His inspired leadership
has been described as ‘an exciting musical journey’ for
the Silver Ring.
His
new choir, The City of Bath Male Choir, was born out of the Silver Ring’s
association with the world-famous Treorchy Choir, Grenville explains:
“I
have got to know them well and attended a few rehearsals over the bridge.
I have always fancied the idea of having my own male voice group which
would sing modern music and so The City of Bath Male Choir was born.”
The
call for singers aged between 16 and 65 went out in January and numbers
are already at the 50 mark and rising each week.
“There
are men who have never sung in a choir before and some who have, after
only three rehearsals the sound is very good.”
Pianist
for the choir is Philip Evry who lives at Timsbury and who has known
Grenville for many years. A retired music teacher Philip still does
some piano teaching and is also well-known in the Bath area.
The
City of Bath Male Choir has a website www.bathmalechoir.org which has
all rehearsal dates listed, the weekly venue is Beechen Cliff Methodist
Church in Shakespeare Avenue, Bath. The Choir’s first concert
is at The Guildhall, Bath, on Saturday November 4th.
“It’s
going to be a wonderful evening for the boys. I intend numbers to be
up to 80 by then. If you are aged 16-65 and wonder what it’s like
singing in a male voice choir, come along and meet us!” says Grenville.

home telephone number is 01761 479352. |
