From Last Choir Standing to First Choir Running as 36 members of Bath Male Choir now reflect on an amazing day – Sunday March 7th when they took part in the 2010 Bath Half Marathon. They were led by founder conductor Grenville Jones who recorded a time of 3hrs and 5mins, thanks mainly to being ‘escorted’ by none other than Mr. Dick Bateman! There were many personal bests and our lead runner, Mick O’Doherty came in 40th position.
A huge well-done to all the runners – also the non runners who were out collecting and encouraging. Particular thanks to Bath Cricket Club for making their facilities available to the Choir on the day and to Ian Head and his wife, Cathy who provided eats at the Cricket Club. There's a rumour Ian just might be running next year.
Grenville and quite few other singers now really have the running bug and there is talk already of a bigger team entry in 2011 ... watch this space!
The final total was an astonishing £14,288.56 and this has been divided equally between The Prostate Cancer Charity (Reg No: 1005541) and the Golden-Oldies Charitable Trust (Reg No: 1121600)The cheque presentations took place on stage at the Aled Jones concert on Saturday May 1st at the Bath Forum. The Devizes Lions Club also sent an additional cheque for £500 which was added to the Prostate Cancer total making it £7,144.28.

Golden-Oldies has only been going 2 years and is making a big impact on the lives of hundreds of lonely and elderly people across the West of England. More money will help the Charity to start new fun singing sessions and add more smiles in the months ahead. Bath Male Choir has forged a strong link with the The Prostate Cancer Charity. The Choir were guests at the Society's 2009 Christmas concert in London and will support their vital work in other ways in the future.
