LAURIE JONES
Laurie Jones is Grenville Jones’ son, and was one of the original Members of the choir back in 2006. He sang in The Bath Male Choir for four years, singing a solo on the BBC show "Last Choir Standing". He left in 2012 to pursue his own career in music and returned to the choir as its Musical Director in 2020.
Laurie has over 20 years experience working as a professional musician and conductor and has gained degrees in both percussion and classical singing studies. He started his musical career as a freelance performer and teacher establishing himself in the South West. He has performed in some of the UK’s most prestigious venues and London’s West End.
In 2009 Laurie decided to change his career and go into Secondary Education as a Music teacher. He was Head of Music at Abbeywood Community school for 6 years and is now Director of Music at Westonbirt School.
Laurie has always had a passion for singing and started to conduct choirs 13 years ago working with Youth Choirs in schools and colleges. Laurie is the Founder and Musical Director of the award winning Mixed Voice Malmesbury Choir which he started in 2013. He also works with his father, Grenville Jones, on The Good Afternoon Choirs and conducts Churchdown (N. Glos) Good Afternoon Choir.
