The City of Bath Male Choir visited Cornwall last weekend to take part in the Cornwall International Male Choral Festival for the first time with performances in Truro Cathedral as well as Redruth’s St Andrew’s Church.


The City of Bath Male Choir are one of the best-loved male choirs in England. Founded by Bath music-man Grenville Jones in 2007 with his son Laurie Jones taking over as Musical Director three years ago. They have toured Europe and visited the States – Boston and Nashville – as well as being the only amateur English male choir to visit Japan, in 2014. Their reputation was enhanced in their early years when they reached the finals of a national televised singing competition called ‘Last Choir Standing’. This hugely popular entertainment show was on the main BBC1 television channel on Saturday evenings and was subsequently broadcast across the world. Bath Male Choir reached the finals singing to an audience of an estimated 13 million viewers.


The boys from Bath travelled to Newquay on Friday and performed at a number of concerts over the weekend, including the Category II Competition in Truro Cathedral where they won ‘Overall Best Choir’ and ‘Best UK Male Choir’.


"This is a fantastic achievement and all credit must go to Laurie and the considerable hard work he has put in behind the scenes to prepare the choir for their performances, also to Dominic Irving the brilliant young accompanist," said Grenville.


Nearer home Bath Male Choir will be taking part in Bath Festival's ‘Party in the City’ on Friday May 15 at Christ Church in Bath from 7.30pm and the following day, May 16 at 5.25pm, performing as part of the Bath Festival of Choirs in Green Park, Bath.


You can also hear them perform at Frome Festival’s 25th Anniversary Celebrations on Friday July 10 from 7.30pm in Holy Trinity Church, Frome, when they will be sharing the stage with Frome Good Afternoon Choir. Tickets priced £15 in advance from gac.ticketlight.co.uk or on the door from 7.00pm.
