A warm welcome to the website of The City of Bath Male Choir, founded in February 2006 by Grenville Jones, pictured.

This is a Choir that is making a BIG sound and gaining a huge reputation. You may have seen The City of Bath Male Choir on the BBC Last Choir Standing TV show in August 2008, when the Choir reached 5th place and were watched and enjoyed by millions of Saturday night TV viewers.

You will find on this website full details of our coming up concert programme, and how to get tickets. We look forward to singing for you in the near future!

Choir members come from across the area and applications for membership are welcome from guys between 16 and 65 who love to sing, you can read some of their comments on our website under 'singers.' The Choir was formed by Grenville Jones in January 2006 and now totals over 90 singers, the 'Wall of Sound' is getting bigger and bigger! Grenville has proved that, contrary to public belief, MEN DO SING!

Outstanding concerts

Throughout 2009 Bath Male Choir has been singing to packed audiences around the UK with standing ovations all the way! In his review of the concert at Truro Methodist Church in late September, Neil Shepherd wrote in the West Briton:

'The choir's precision and dynamics have to be heard to be believed. The performance proved that Male Voice Choir repertoire can move with the times. It concluded to rapturous applause and a complete standing ovation. To get such spontaneous applause from a Cornish audience in the cradle of our own Cornish male voice choirs is certainly the finest accolade any visiting choir could receive.'

Lucy Woods was in the audience at the Sterts Theatre where Bath Male Choir sang to a full house on Friday Sept 25th. She e-mailed the Choir to say:

'My family went to your concert at Sterts theatre on the 25th of September and thought that Bath Male Choir was outstanding! I bought the Standing Ovation CD for my grandad's birthday and he hasn't stopped listening to it ever since! My mum also loves it so I ordered one for her birthday.' 2009 concerts have been to packed churches and concert halls around the UK, many selling out weeks in advance and raising thousands of pounds for various charities. The year started at Wiltshire Music Centre in February, then Portishead in March, Queens Hall Taunton and Downside Theatre in April (raising £2,000 for the Children's Hospice South West) St Patrick's RC Church, Bristol in May and Vicarage Rd Methodist Church, Yeovil in June.

In July, the Bath Forum was packed for a joint concert with the fabulous ACM Gospel Choir - see our picture of Grenville with ACM'S Mark De-Lisser. In August the choir supported the Golden-Oldies Charity, topping the bill at a concert in Bath hosted by local MP Don Foster. Then came the visit to Cornwall with two memorable concerts and also a performance at the Eden Project singing in a packed dome! This was followed by a sell-out concert at Melksham which raised £4,500 for the Dorothy House Hospice. On October 24th the choir travelled to Leicester to perform at a packed St James Church in the centre of the City, a concert hosted by the Chanterelles choir.

The 2009 Cornwall tour referred to above included a guest performance at the Eden Project before a huge audience. See our concert page for details of future concerts.

Bath Male Choir ended 2009 singing in London at St John’s Smith Square, on December 11th supporting The Prostate Cancer Charity. Clive Anderson introduced the concert which was a memorable night for the 70 members of the Choir who took part.
