Our founder conductor Grenville Jones is rapidly gaining a national reputation of being, “ The man who gets people singing !” He was Aled Jones’ guest on his Radio Three program THE CHOIR last Autumn talking about the success of Bath Male Choir and the Golden-Oldies Charity he started last January. ‘Goldies’ as it has become known has attracted media attention from around the World. In March Grenville was recognised by the Mayor of Bath as a Bath Citizen of the Year 2009 for his work with the Golden-Oldies Charity. He was nominated for this award by a number of folk who regularly attend the Goldies singing session at Blagdon Park, Whiteway, Bath. The Bath Chronicle in its first issue of 2009 also named Grenville as Bath's Man of the Year for 2008.
Editor, Sam Holliday, wrote; "Our 2008 Man of the Year, has become a powerful and important ‘voice’ in our community. His work with all his choirs (past, present and indeed future) is enough to make him a worthy winner, but his success at leading the City of Bath Male Choir to TV success and his fantastic achievements with the Golden-Oldies Charity put him in a league of his own in 2008. The Golden-Oldies was a brilliant idea waiting to happen, but it took a man of rare vision, charm, enthusiasm and perseverance to do it. Grenville fitted that ‘job spec’ perfectly."
After 11 years as Musical Director of the Silver Ring Choir of Bath, Grenville stood down in December to start his own new mixed-voice choir in Bath called 'The Bath Chorus.' Find out all about this exciting new venture AND a new project for retired people who want to sing everything from Folk Songs to Abba - 'The Good Afternoon Choir' which will start in Bath this Spring.
From May 1 – May 4 Grenville’s next big Charity fund raiser is the Bath Sing for Life weekend when his Bath Male Choir, Bath Chorus and Stockingtops all-girl group will all be appearing.
